Kubo and the two strings is an American 3D stop motion fantasy film, released on august, 19 2016. The movie is another good attempt of Laika and Focus Features.

The movie is a fresh release by Focus features in US on August 19, 2016. It is an American 3D stop-motion fantasy film directed by Travis Knight. The movie is produced by the producer company Laika and written by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler. Artparkinson, Charlize Theron, Matthew Mc Conaughey, Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara and George Takei have given their voices to the characters of the movie.

The story belongs to the era of ancient Japan where the main character, a young boy called Kubo (Parkinson) who lives with his ill mother (Charlize Theron) on the top of a mountain, in a natural cave. Every morning he goes out to the nearby village called Sun village and tells stories to the people by manipulating paper in the form of orgami, which moves as per the music played by him on his shamisen. He usually tells the stories of a Samurai warrior ‘Hanzo’, who was his missing father and was a great warrior. Every day he has to return back to his home before the sun set because he was warned by his mother about the ill intention of his aunts and his grandfather , ‘the moon king’, who can take out his the only remaining eye as the other one was already taken by them in his early childhood.

One evening due to some miss happening he could not reach his home back and his aunt (Rooney Mara) finds Kubo and tries to extract his eyes. The evil spirits of his grandfather tries to destroy the village but his mother somehow saves the village and ultimately, Kubo has to leave the village to find his father’s armor and destroy the evil spirits. What happens next is the mystery, ‘how Kubo gets his father’s armor and how he destroys the evil spirits?’ Will he ever be able to achieve his goal?

The Laika and focus features announced the film production on December 22, 2014 and the more interesting thing is that Travis Knight CEO of Laika, has delivered his debut direction performance in this project. It has collected $19 million in North America and $957,000 in other territories, after its release on August 26, 2016; however, the budget was a whopping $60 million.

Rotten Tomatoes has given it 96% approval, based on 133 reviews with an average rating of 8.3/10. The film is applauded for its incredible animation with a blend of interesting story. The movie is not only meant for children but a perfect piece of cinema for all ages. It is a meaningful film.
