The movie starts from a scene from far back past in 1977, when a small five year child named ‘Pete’ was on a road trip with his parents but their car, on the road near a jungle, flips off the road while saving a dear who came inadvertently in front of their car. Pete’s unfortunate parents died immediately but Pete survived the accident. He was alone and helpless and hence fallen to become an expected prey for the jungle wolves. Wolves chased him for a while and he tried to escape the impending death somehow, but at last he got trapped, no way out now, but in the midst a dragon with green fur, yellow eyes and huge wings appeared on the spot and it saved the poor child from the claws of the death. Hence their friendship began and he named the dragon on his favorite book about a puppy, called ‘Elliot’ and from that very day Pete started taking him as a father figure.

Six years later now Pete has grown to a big boy of 11 years, one day he spotted a lumberjack crew chopping down trees near his home. The daughter of the site foreman, Natalie spotted him and started chasing him. In the meanwhile she accidentally falls from a tree and her pain ridden screams attracted his father and the team. Pete tried to run away but one of them accidentally made Pete unconscious and when Elliot realized that Pete is unconscious, he stumbles in between and this led to a hunt for the dragon on the part of the team. From here the personal grudges of her father and the Elliot begins. What happens next is somewhat far more interesting and entertaining.

The film has received good and positive reviews from the critics and has collected around $77 million since its release against a $65 million budget of production.
